Follows a generation of the Dutton family in 1923, during a time of various hardships including Prohibition, drought, and the early stages of the Great Depression, which affected Montana long before the 1929 Stock Market Crash.

On the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, 1923 holds a 91% approval rating with an average rating of 7.0/10, based on 32 reviews by critics. The website's consensus reads, "Distinguished by the ineffable star power of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, 1923 is another solid if unrelentingly grim addition to Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone universe."[39] On Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, the series has received a score of 67 out of 100 based on 15 critic reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[40]

However, not all characters have had a chance to shine just yet, and while curiosity will certainly be piqued, some audience members will have to be patient with other characters it would seem. While Mirren shines, Ford is relegated to an all too-familiar and predictable role in the premiere. Jacob has established himself as Livestock Commissioner, which of course, is a major part of the Dutton legacy, as his descendents would clench that position in their fist for generations to come. But predictably, a Dutton man in a position of power is bound to ruffle a few feathers. Or in the case of 1923, ruffle some wool.

The faraway location is new for the Dutton saga, and it shakes things up a bit. And just like 1883 didn't pull away from the Dutton family dropping like flies on their way to Montana, 1923 didn't shy away from the reality of the bloodthirsty beasts Spencer hunts.

I don't know nearly enough about that period in history and how Native American children were being forced to assimilate into our white world, but I have faith that the creatives behind 1923 will do the story justice.

The scope of 1923 is broader than either Yellowstone or 1883, introducing several different locations and juggling multiple stories with characters that don't intersect. While it's not on the books, I recall hearing that the story they're telling is so vast that they've already considered adding a second season.

YouTube has always been a platform for studios to show trailers, teases, featurettes, and other promotional material, but has recently been used to release entire episodes - at least the pilot. The historical drama 1923 now has its full first episode available for free on YouTube, just a week after it premiered on Paramount+ and set viewership records on the streaming platform.

The series follows a family of cattle ranchers, the Duttons, struggling to preserve their way of life as wealthy investors sweep up the land around them. It's a prequel to Yellowstone, which shows a later generation of modern-day Duttons grappling with politics, deception, and family drama. Another prequel to Yellowstone called 1883 premiered last year, although you don't need to watch it to understand 1923. All three are created by showrunner Taylor Sheridan.

1923 is written by Taylor Sheridan and distributed by Paramount Global. It stars Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Jerome Flynn, Brandon Sklenar, Julia Schlaepfer, Darren Mann, and Isabel May. It began streaming on December 18th, 2022 on Paramount+. New episodes are available every Sunday, and the first season is set to run for eight episodes. 041b061a72
